I have co-founded this charity to improve understanding of the prevalence and needs of autistic women and girls.
Gabi
Hi, I’m Gabi and I’m one of the founding members of Auti-Ms, and I am an Autistic woman. I had a late diagnosis, being first diagnosed in my teens, but it wasn’t acknowledged because I didn’t “seem Autistic”. I was re-diagnosed in my late twenties, due to mental health struggles including disordered eating. I came across the charity in its early form and met the other founding members online. I really wanted to get involved because I realised that if I had had access to a charity like Auti-Ms in my teens that would have been a game changer.
My hopes for the charity are to offer help and support to others like me, and to raise awareness of Autistic girls and women and how autism presents differently in females. The diagnostic journey for women and girls like me can be challenging, and I hope to improve this and help other on their way.
